Ballet

Understanding how we teach ballet:

At Creation Studio we use the Cecchetti Ballet Method. “Cecchetti training is a rigorous method which pays careful attention to the laws of anatomy. It develops all of the qualities essential to the dancer: balance, poise, strength, elevation, elasticity, “ballon”, etc. It is classic in its purity and clear-cut style.” This ballet technique was developed by Enrico Checchetti a true master of ballet. His technique paid careful attention to the laws of anatomy and created a beautiful, yet rigorous technique that dancers can achieve safely with work and determination. (For more details regarding Cecchetti visit https://www.cecchetti.org/students/syllabus-overview/.)

Ballet for littles:

For our pre-ballet students we teach ballet through creative movement and an adventure curriculum. Students have so much fun on their adventure they don’t even realize they are working muscles and developing ballet technique along the way!

Cecchetti Syllabus:

Younger children (or beginners to ballet) will study the Primary Curriculum which focuses on developing poise and musicality in a fun, creative, and engaging way.

Primary 1

Primary 2

Primary 3

Our experienced ballet students will begin to study ballet in a deeper way by studying proper body alignment, placement, theory; while working on developing strength, coordination. musicality and grace. Students at this level will study Grade 1 – 4  of the Cecchetti Curriculum. At this level students should be taking a minimum of 2 ballet classes per week. Good classroom attendance is key for developing excellent ballet technique.

Grade 1

Grade 2

Grade 3

Grade 4

Examinations:

Students who are ready for a Cecchetti ballet exam will be invited by a teacher to take an exam preparation class leading up to an exam.  Students will only be presented for exam if the teacher feels they are ready. There will be an examination fee and book fee for this class (TBA).

Students are not required to take examinations to move up and grow through the levels in our studio.

Why take an exam?

“Ballet exams are valuable for serious ballet students because they promote the development of strong technique, artistry, and quality of movement. The examining process gives each student a goal to work towards and allows them to achieve it.  It takes discipline to study theory and work hard in class to reach the technical requirements for each grade level.  Achieving goals heightens self-esteem by allowing the dancer to graduate to the next level upon successful completion of the previous grade.  The benefits of using a method which builds from one level to the next is important in developing a well-trained dancer.”

“The Cecchetti Council of America holds examinations in classical ballet for students and teachers who are training in the Cecchetti method. The Syllabus tests the technical and artistic accomplishments of student candidates who have been prepared by member teachers. It offers students an opportunity to demonstrate their technical ability and understanding of the material. Each level provides attainable goals that build self-confidence in their developmental progress and successful achievements.”
